Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

On your arriva at Kigali International Airport and after completing all the formalities of imigration, your guide will extend a warm welcome and escort you to your hotel. This marks the beginning of your adventure in Rwanda. You’ll spend the night at your accommodation, providing you with the opportunity to rest and prepare for the exciting journey that awaits you.

Day 2: Drive or Fly to Nyungwe Forest National Park - Canopy walk

After breakfast, you have two options for your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You can choose to drive from Kigali to the park, enjoying the scenic route along the way. Alternatively, you may opt for a private charter flight, offering a faster and more aerial perspective of the journey.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a significant conservation area, protecting the largest single tract of Montane forest remaining in Africa. It is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, with 86 mammal species, 280 bird species, and approximately 100 varieties of orchids. The park is considered the most important birding site in Rwanda.

Upon your arrival and settlement at the park, you will have the opportunity to embark on a canopy walk within the forest. The canopy walk is particularly appealing to bird enthusiasts, as it provides an elevated vantage point for spotting a variety of bird species within the forest. While enjoying the canopy walk, keep an eye out for birds such as the Rwenzori Turaco and the black and white casqued hornbill. Additionally, you may also have the chance to witness large troops of colobus monkeys during your exploration.

Day 3: Chimp trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

After a good breakfast, you will set on a thrilling chimp trekking safari in Nyungwe Forest National Park. This park safeguards the largest single tract of Montane forest left in Africa, making it a vital conservation area. Nyungwe is particularly renowned for its primate diversity, and it boasts an impressive 13 primate species inhabiting its lush rainforest.

Among these primates, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees. In addition to the chimpanzees, Nyungwe is home to the delightful L’Hoest’s monkey and numerous playful troops of Black and White Colobus monkeys. This chimp trekking experience promises to be an unforgettable encounter with the fascinating primates of Nyungwe Forest.

Day 4: Drive or Fly to Akagera National Park - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

After your memorable safari in Nyungwe Forest National Park, you will have the choice to either drive or fly to Akagera National Park. Opting for the flight will grant you a quick and picturesque journey to your next destination.

Upon your arrival at Akagera National Park, the Magashi Shuttle will be there to pick you up and transfer you to your lodge. Alternatively, you may choose to stay at Ruzizi Tented Camp. Akagera National Park showcases stunning landscapes, characterized by rolling plains, dense broad-leafed forests, and vibrant acacia woodlands, all of which create a favorable environment for both wildlife and visitors.

If time permits, you can embark on an afternoon game drive, offering you the chance to spot a diverse range of mammals, including giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, hippos, spotted hyenas, and a multitude of bird species. This game drive promises to be an enriching wildlife encounter in Akagera National Park.

Day 5: Game Drive and Boat Cruise at Lake Iheme - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

Your day begins with an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park, providing you with the opportunity to explore the park’s wildlife during the prime hours of activity. Akagera is home to a diverse range of animals, and you may have the chance to spot lions, hippos, buffaloes, elephants, and a variety of bird species during your drive.

After the morning game drive, you will return to your accommodation for some relaxation and a hearty meal.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a boat ride on Lake Ihema. This boat excursion promises a unique and tranquil experience as you sail along the water’s edge, where several trees provide a picturesque backdrop. During the boat ride, you’ll encounter numerous giant hippos and have the opportunity to observe several crocodiles, some in the shallows of the water and others basking on the shore. It’s a captivating and scenic exploration of the park’s aquatic life.

Day 6 :Drive or Fly to Volcanoes National Park - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

Following breakfast, you will set out for Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park), and you have the option to either fly or drive to your destination.

During your journey, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Rwanda’s picturesque terraced hillsides, showcasing the diverse landscape of the country. As you gradually ascend, you’ll reach the base of the awe-inspiring Virunga volcanoes, where, on clear days, as many as five peaks may be visible.

Upon your arrival, you can choose to have the afternoon at leisure, allowing you to unwind and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the park. Alternatively, you may opt to explore the town of Ruhengeri, providing you with an opportunity to engage with the local culture and surroundings. This marks the beginning of your exploration in this remarkable region.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking or Optional Activities - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

Today, following an early breakfast, you will embark on a remarkable journey to Ruhengeri, where the highlight of your trip awaits – a visit to the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park. Accompanied by an experienced Ranger Guide, you’ll have the privilege of coming face to face with these magnificent creatures while learning fascinating facts about their lives and habitat.

If gorilla trekking isn’t your preference, there are alternative activities available for you to choose from. You can opt for a hike up Mount Bisoke, a volcano that begins early in the morning. A park ranger will guide you to the summit, where, on a clear day, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Crater Lake and the surrounding Virunga volcanoes. This experience combines incredible vistas with the thrill of an uphill climb.

Alternatively, you may decide to track the golden monkeys in the bamboo forest or visit the Dian Fossey Grave. At this site, you will find the house where Dian Fossey, the renowned primatologist, was tragically murdered in 1985. However, the more serene aspect of the location is the final resting place of Dian Fossey, right next to her beloved gorilla, Digit, and approximately 20 other mountain gorillas – Gorilla Trip Rwanda

In the afternoon, you have the option of taking a leisurely walk to explore Ruhengeri town and its bustling market, providing you with insight into the local culture and daily life. This day offers a range of enriching experiences to choose from, ensuring you make the most of your time in this captivating region.

Day 8: Drive or Fly to Kigali and Depart - Gorilla Trip Rwanda

On your final day of this remarkable journey, you will have the option to either drive or take a private charter flight to Kigali. Once in the capital city, you will visit the Genocide Museum, an important historical site that commemorates the Rwandan Genocide. This visit provides an opportunity to reflect on the country’s history and the resilience of its people.

Following the museum visit, you can enjoy a short city tour of Kigali, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture and atmosphere of the city.
