Birding Tour Uganda Overview

This four-day Birding tour uganda will take you to Murchison Falls National Park, where you can go bird watching. The park is home to many different types of birds, with around 650 species. So, you will get to see a lot of different birds while you are there. We have seen many different types of birds like storks, secretary birds, bustards, widow birds, bee-eaters, kingfishers, herons, doves, shrikes, flycatchers, cuckoos, woodpeckers, warblers, and more. The place near the river is also where ducks, geese, stilts, and plovers live. These things, and many others.

Day 1: Birding Tour Uganda - Transfer to Mabamba Swamp

On this day, you will get up early and go to Mabamba swamp which is 50 kilometers west of Kampala. You will see many different types of birds like the White Shouldered Tit, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler, and the special shoebill stork. There are many different types of animals that live in the swamp. Some examples of these are grey herons, rufous bellied herons, squacos, purple herons, goliath herons, Allen’s gallinules, purple gallinules, pallid harriers, and blue swallows. After eating lunch in Masindi town, we will continue our journey to the park. We will also have the opportunity to do some birdwatching along the way. When you arrive, go to the park to check in. Then have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Birding tour Uganda in Budongo Forest

You’ll eat breakfast and take your packed lunch to Budongo Forest. There, you’ll go birdwatching on the Royal Mile, which is an amazing place with trees covering the top. In the forest, there are many different types of birds that you might see. Some examples include the Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Blue-throated Roller, White-thighed Hornbill, Nahan’s Francolin, Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spinetail, Forest Flycatcher, Ituri Batis, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Forest Robin, Yellow Billed, Grey Throated, Hairy Breasted and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Great Blue and Black Billed Turaco, Dusy Long Tailed Cuckoo, Spotted, Plain, Slender Billed, White Throated, Little Grey and Little Greeenbul, and many more. You might get lucky and see chimpanzees as well. The chimps can also be seen on days when luck is on your side. Eat your dinner and take a break.

Day 3: Birding at the nothern Bank Of Murchison Falls

Get up early, prepare breakfast and pack your lunch. Then go on a boat ride to see the bottom of the waterfalls and take a safari drive to the Delta. If you pay attention to birds like the shoebill stork, Red-throated and Northern Carmine Bee-eater, you might also see mammals like giraffes, Cape buffalo, elephants, waterbuck, and more. You can also see birds like the Yellow Billed and African Open Billed Stork, Hauglins Francolin, Senegal Thick-knee, Rock Pratincole, Giant, Woodland, Grey Headed, and the Malchite. While on the game drive, keep an eye out for birds like the Black Billed Barbet, Northern and Red Faced Barbet, Swallow-tailed, Little Bee-eaters, Abyssinian Rollers, the giant Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Black Winged and Northern Red Bishops, Chestnut Crowned, and the White Browed Sparrow Weaver, as well as many others. Go back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night there.

Day 4: Birding at the Top of Falls then Back to Entebbe

After your tasty breakfast, get ready to go to Kampala and visit the top of the falls. From there, you will see amazing views of the water rushing through a narrow gorge. Travel to Kampala for birdwatching along the way, and take a break for lunch. When you arrive in the evening, you will be brought to the airport so you can fly back home.
