Gorilla Hike Uganda Overview

Gorilla Hike Uganda, we will spend 25 days exploring different places in Uganda. We will start by visiting the Source of the Nile in Jinja, then see the beautiful Sipi Falls. After that, we will go to Moroto to learn about the K’jong culture. Next, we will visit Kidepo and Murchison Falls National Parks, where we can see amazing wildlife. We will also go to Kibale Forest to see chimps and Semuliki National Park to see Sempaya Hot-springs. We will continue our journey by visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where we can go mountain gorilla trekking. Finally, we will visit Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park.

Wildlife of Uganda

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe International Airport

Because of jet lag, our tour guide will wait for you and take you to the hotel you booked so you can relax and rest as you get used to the new country and surroundings.

If you want to go to Ngambi Island during your tour of Kampala city or sightseeing in Entebbe, you can pay an additional fee to arrange it.

Day 2: Visit the Source of The Nile In Jinja - Gorilla Hike Uganda

Jinja is the second biggest city in Uganda. This place is known for its Asian neighborhoods, beer factories, and beautiful gardens.

Go see the beginning of the Nile River at Lake Victoria. Then, visit the statue of Gandhi. After that, go to the amazing Itanda Falls and Bosowoko Falls on the Nile River, which are a short distance away from the starting point. Experience the amazing feeling of white water rafting, which is a popular activity in Jinja.

Day 3: Sipi Falls - Gorilla Hike Uganda

On this day, we will start with a walk in nature to see the beautiful waterfalls on the Sipi River. The Sipi River comes from Mount Elgon. We begin at a place called Crow’s Nest, where people can camp and stay overnight.

On the way, you will notice caves and fields where coffee, matooke, and sugarcane are grown. We make sure you have a lunch to take with you for the day.

Day 4: Karamajong Cultural Experience in Moroto - Gorilla Hike Uganda

It takes about 10 hours to travel from sipi falls to moroto. On the way, we will go through pian reserve and visit local markets and other interesting places in moroto district. We will have lunch during the journey and dinner at our hotel in the evening.

Day 5: Transfer to Kidepo - Gorilla Hike Uganda

Eat breakfast at your accommodation, then go on a cultural experience with the Karamajong people. They are proud of their own unique culture. Their strong passion for raising cattle is equal to that of the famous Masai people in Kenya and Tanzania.

These strong fighters have a very special way of life and they think that God gave them permission to have cows. They believe that all cows, even ones that belong to other people, belong to them. You can watch how they live, make their food, have fun, and do their traditional dances. Later today, we will take you to Kidepo National Park.

Day 6: Game Drive throgh Kidepo - Gorilla Hike Uganda

After a great breakfast, you will go and explore the land and animals in this very faraway place in Uganda. You will go on an exciting drive to see the grasslands, dry river bed, hills, and small forests. You can see animals like buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, lions, cheetahs, and birds. The plants and trees will amaze you because they have somehow survived in a dry part of the country.

You will also go for a drive to the Karankorog Hot Springs and see many wild animals along the way. Every time you go on a game drive, even if you take the same route twice, you will always see and find something new. Each experience will be different and special. The birds, scenery, and animals will make you feel amazed and we suggest keeping your camera close to capture great photos.

Day 7: Murchison Falls National Park - Gorilla Hike Uganda

After you eat breakfast, go for a drive towards the famous Murchison Falls national park. Afterwards, you will reach Murchison Falls National Park, which is the biggest and safest area in Uganda for wildlife. It spans over 3,840 square kilometers. Go up to the highest point of the Falls to see the beautiful natural sight of the waterfalls.

In this spot, the river gets narrow to only 7 meters after being more than 1 km wide. It then falls down with a loud noise, creating a beautiful rainbow from the water spray. It is an amazing sight on the Nile River. You can also eat and sleep here.

Day 8: Game Drive and Boat Cruise - Gorilla Hike Uganda

Start your day with a tasty breakfast, then go and see lots of animals in the Northern area. This game drive is a great chance to take pictures of elephants, lions, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, giraffes, water-bucks, hippos, and if you’re lucky, even leopards. There are also many different types of birds to see.

After having lunch, you can go on a 2-hour boat ride to the bottom of the Murchison falls. There, you will see a lot of water rushing through a small opening and making a very loud noise. During this boat ride, you will see many water birds and large numbers of mammals like Hippos and crocodiles. Go back to the lodge, eat dinner, and go to sleep at your lodge.

Day 9: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhinos - Gorilla Hike Uganda

People can come and follow the rhinos at the sanctuary and get a good view of them. You can walk up to the Rhinos. The animals are not very harmful if you do what you are told. The White Rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary are big and friendly – you can safely walk up to them without any danger. You will be accompanied by a sanctuary ranger who knows a lot about how rhinos behave. At Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you can see the Rhinos up close and on foot instead of from a vehicle. You can also take unique and amazing photos as you meet the White Rhinos of Ziwa.

Day 10: Kibale Forest National Park - Gorilla Hike Uganda

Get up early and leave your place after eating breakfast. Take a drive outside of the park to Kibale Forest using the Fort-portal / hoima road. Kibale Forest is a pretty forest in Africa and has 13 different types of monkeys. The most common monkeys there are Chimpanzees. It is also a good place for people who like birds because there are over 325 different types of birds there. When you drive to this park, you can see beautiful views along the way.

Day 11: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Walk

In the morning, we will have breakfast and then go to the park headquarters for a meeting. After that, we will begin our journey to find and observe chimpanzees in the forest. Just a reminder, trackers only have 1 hour to spend with the chimpanzees when they meet them. When we look at chimpanzees, we can also see other animals like Red Tailed Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, and Black & White colobus Monkeys. We can also spot elephants, antelopes, and buffaloes in the forest.

Return to the lodge to have lunch. In the evening, take a walk at the Bigodi wetland to see birds, baboons, bush babies, and other types of animals. Eat dinner and stay overnight.

Day 12: Semuliki Hot Springs and Amabere Nganyamwiru Caves

After you finish eating your tasty breakfast, go and see the Sempaya hot springs. They are the most interesting things to see in Semuliki. These springs have a hole that shoots up hot water from a height of 8 meters. The springs have a fascinating feature – they can quickly cook matooke and eggs. Within a few minutes, these foods are ready to eat. Actually, this is the biggest hot spring in Uganda.

Day 13: Fort Portal and Crater Lakes

Fort Portal is a pretty city with lots of places for tourists to visit. It was where British settlers first established themselves in Uganda.

We will ride through the Town and our first stop will be at the Toro kingdom palace. We will also visit other cultural places in the town. Toro Kingdom is where the youngest king in the world, named Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, lives. While you’re at the palace, you can learn about the traditional clothing, language, historical kings, and burial places in Toro kingdom. You can also see various artifacts that reflect their culture. You will also get to see the Tooro Botanical Gardens and many other things that the city has. Afterwards, you will be taken to a hotel where you will have dinner and stay for the night.

Day 14: Crater Lakes and Top of the World Experience

Come and visit Rweteera Village for a tour of the community and the beautiful natural surroundings. Explore the neighborhood and see the lovely animals, talk and have fun with the local folks, and admire the beautiful surroundings. Visit various lakes, tea farms, and climb to the highest point for an amazing view of the faraway landscapes and Kibale Forest. This experience is like no other and looks great in photos. Please remember to bring your camera to take some great pictures.

You can also choose to go canoeing on the lakes in the craters. Keep exploring the area by driving through fort-portal and enjoying a visit to amabera caves. Afterwards, return to the hotel in Fort Portal Town for dinner.

Day 15 Transfer to Queen Elisabeth National Park

After you finish eating breakfast, start driving to Queen Elizabeth, a National Park in Uganda. This park is known for its diverse wildlife, including over 600 species of birds and animals like elephants and buffaloes. The drive will take about 4 hours. On the trip, you will see beautiful sights like the Rwenzori mountains. When you get to the park, go for a drive in the evening to see lots of animals. Eat and rest at the lodge.

Day 16: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After you eat breakfast today, go on a car ride in the park early in the morning. In the park, you will see many different kinds of animals like water-bucks, lions, elephants, hartebeests, giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, leopards, and warthogs. You will also get to see different lakes that look like craters. After driving for 3 hours, you can go back for lunch. Then, get ready for a 2 hour boat ride on Kazinga channel. You will see more than 550 hippos there, as well as birds and other animals like crocodiles, elephants, and antelopes. Come back and eat dinner and sleep overnight.

Day 17: Morning Game Drive and Tree Climbing Lions in Ishasha

Getting up early and going out to see these animals in their different groups and families, this safari can be done in the Kasenyi plains to look for elephants, leopards, buffaloes, water bucks, and beautiful birds. Afterwards, go on a 2-hour car ride to Ishasha where you can see lions that climb trees. Skilled park rangers will help you look for these lions, and it’s really cool to see them in trees. You can eat lunch at the lodge or have a picnic.

Day 18: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today, you start your trip to Bwindi, the home of the kind and big Mountain gorillas. This trip will bring you to the Kigezi highlands and its many hills that have been shaped into steps. You can eat lunch either on your way or at the lodge, depending on when you arrive. Eat dinner and relax at your accommodation.

Day 19: Gorilla Trekking

The Mountain gorillas, large and gentle creatures, have found a home in Bwindi Forest. Their DNA is very similar to humans, about 98%. There are also many other types of animals and plants that live here, such as butterflies, plants, monkeys, mammals, frogs, and more. After getting information at the main office, the rangers will take you into the jungle to follow gorillas.

This activity usually takes between 1 and 8 hours. Gorillas move in different ways, so you only have 1 hour to capture your best moments with them. If you don’t want to track gorillas, you can choose to go on a short guided walk in the forest or visit the Batwa community. Stay and relax at the lodge.

Day 20: Mgahinga National Park

Mgahinga National Park is the smallest park in the southwestern area of the country. This is the only location in Uganda where you can find golden monkeys. There are approximately 5059 golden monkeys living here.

The National Park is located in Uganda, specifically in the Virunga Mountains. It is one of the few places in Africa where you can see golden monkeys. Mgahinga is a great place to go for gorilla trekking along with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. However, the best thing about visiting Mgahinga is seeing the golden monkeys.

Day 21: Golden Monkey Tracking or Gorilla Trekking

Golden monkey trekking starts at 8:00 am at the Ntebeko trail, which is a half-day trek. Once you find the primates, you can spend an hour with them before walking back to where you are staying. We have trained a family of golden monkeys in Mgahinga National Park. This allows us to study them and help them get used to humans.

Day 22: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today, after eating breakfast and still thinking about the past days with gorillas, you will drive to Lake Bunyonyi. It is the second deepest lake in Africa and a good place for bird watching. Enjoy the beautiful views of the hills where locals do their farming.Here, you are in a place called the “Switzerland of Africa,” named by a famous British diplomat named Winston Churchill.

Day 23: Discover the Islands of Lake Bunyonyi

Have a delicious breakfast while looking at the pretty hills, forests, and the morning sunlight. After going for a ride in a small boat on the lake, you can learn interesting stories from the guides about the 29 islands, including one called Punishment Island, that have a long history. Go back to the lodge, eat lunch and in the afternoon, go for a walk or climb the hills to see beautiful forests and lakes. You can also watch birds, read a book by the lake, or swim in the lake, which is free of Bilharzia and safe for swimming.

Day 24: Transfer to Lake Mburo

After you finish eating breakfast, start your journey towards Lake Mburo National Park. It will take you about 4 hours and 30 minutes to reach there by car. While driving, you will see beautiful landscapes, farms, and plantations. Don’t forget to have lunch along the way. Lake Mburo National Park is one of the smallest parks in Uganda. The park has a lot of Zebras, as well as impalas, oribis, buffaloes, warthogs, water-bucks, and more than 332 different types of birds. When you get to the park in the afternoon, go on a boat ride on Lake Mburo and take lots of pictures.

Day 25: Transfer Back to Entebbe

Have a breakfast in the morning, then go on a game drive while heading to Entebbe. Make a stop at the Equator line to take photos and buy souvenirs from a craft shop. You can have lunch either at the Equator or in Kampala, depending on when you get there.

 

If you need to return on the same day, your guide will take you to Entebbe as you say goodbye to Uganda. We hope you enjoyed your 25-day safari in Uganda with various people and wildlife.
