Day 1: Akagera National Park – Golden Monkey Trekking in Rwanda

Our exciting adventure begins early in the morning, around 5:30 am, when our friendly guide meets you at your hotel in Kigali. We then set out for Akagera National Park, where an exhilarating full-day game drive awaits us.

The journey takes us from the park’s southern region to its northern expanse, offering an incredible opportunity to explore the park’s diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. This extensive game drive typically spans between 8 to 12 hours, allowing ample time to immerse ourselves in the park’s rich biodiversity.

Akagera National Park,

Expertly managed by African Parks, boasts a unique conservation success story. In the past, conflicts between local communities and wildlife were common. However, through effective conservation strategies, including community engagement, these issues have been mitigated, fostering a harmonious coexistence.

As the only Savannah park in Rwanda, Akagera is home to a wide array of mammals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, and, more recently, black rhinos reintroduced from South Africa. This transformation has officially reinstated Akagera National Park as a “big five” park, reminiscent of its historical status. Bird enthusiasts will also be delighted by the park’s diverse avian residents.

After a captivating day in Akagera, we return to Kigali for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Musanze City – Golden Monkey Trekking in Rwanda and Bisoke Crater Lake Hike

We begin our day early, around 4 am, embarking on a journey to Volcanoes National Park, located in Musanze City. Our primary activity for the day is the remarkable golden monkey tracking experience.

The trek to encounter these golden monkeys is truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Venturing into the dense mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains is a magical experience. When you spot these incredible primates, you’ll be allowed to spend an awe-inspiring hour observing them in their natural habitat. This encounter is one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on Earth, offering an intimate connection with these gentle giants.

Following this enchanting encounter, we proceed to Kivu Lake, where we will spend the night at the picturesque Paladis Malahide Resort.

Day 3: Kigali City Tour and Genocide Memorial Visits – Golden Monkey Trekking in Rwanda

After enjoying a hearty breakfast at 8 am or 9 am, we begin our journey back to Kigali. Here, we embark on a historical exploration of the city, visiting landmarks that span colonial, post-independence, genocide, and post-genocide periods.

Our first stop is the Kigali Genocide Memorial site, a place of great significance where over 259,000 genocide victims have been laid to rest in mass graves. This solemn visit pays tribute to those who tragically lost their lives during those dark times.

Visiting Museum

Continuing our exploration, we visit the Dr. Richard Kant Museum, dedicated to the first German explorer to settle in Kigali. Our tour also includes a visit to the Belgian camp, where ten Belgian UN soldiers, who were protecting the moderate prime minister before the genocide, lost their lives.

The day’s journey takes us to Kimironko Market and other craft shops, where you can collect souvenirs that will forever remind you of your remarkable adventure in Rwanda.

As the day comes to a close, we may enjoy a delicious dinner before heading to the airport for your flight back home.
