You also have the option to explore Kigali through a city tour or visit local craft markets, brimming with pottery, carvings, batik, weaving, musical instruments, leather goods, and fabrics.

Day 2: Nyungwe National Park – Visit Genocide Memorial & Journey to Nyungwe Forest

Before departing for Nyungwe Forest, you can visit the Genocide Memorial in town, a poignant place of remembrance for the 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide. The exhibit, though emotionally intense, offers valuable insights into Rwanda’s history. As you drive to Nyungwe, passing through Butare, you can explore the Butare National Museum, showcasing ethnographic objects reflecting the country’s rich traditional life and culture. Your day ends as you arrive at Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful rainforests. This biodiverse forest is home to 13 primate species, including colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys, and chimpanzees, as well as 310 bird species, 26 of which are unique to Rwanda.

Day 3: Nyungwe National Park – Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

Today, venture deep into Nyungwe Forest National Park for an unforgettable Chimpanzee Tracking experience. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll observe these fascinating creatures up close, watching them groom, play, and forage in their natural habitat. While your chances of encountering chimpanzees are high, they are wild animals with independent minds. Later, embark on one of East Africa’s first canopy walks, taking you high into the forest canopy via suspension bridges. This optional activity provides spectacular views and a unique perspective of the lush vegetation and various animal habitats. Your evening is spent in a luxurious lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – A Scenic Wonderland – Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Prepare to be amazed by the breathtaking beauty of Volcanoes National Park. This park, mainly part of the Virunga mountain range with its five volcanoes, straddles the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Beyond its stunning scenery, the park offers incredible activities, including tracking rare golden monkeys, thrilling volcano hikes, and visits to the Dian Fossey research center.

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking Experience

The day you’ve been waiting for has arrived – your Gorilla Trekking experience. Accompanied by an experienced park ranger, you’ll track one of the habituated gorilla families that tolerate brief human visits each day. The journey is an exciting yet challenging adventure through forested slopes, muddy terrain, tangled vines, dense vegetation, and bamboo forests. Your ranger will point out signs of gorilla activity along the way, such as nests, dung, and chewed bamboo shoots. Depending on the gorillas’ location, the trek can take anywhere from 1 to 7 hours. Once you find the gorilla family, settle in and quietly observe these remarkable primates, whose habits mirror our own. Encountering mountain gorillas in the wild is a profoundly humbling and emotional experience, leaving an indelible mark on your memory.

Day 6: Return to Kigali – Farewell to Rwanda – Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Savor your last morning in the rainforest before enjoying an early lunch. Your guide will then drive you back to Kigali for your departure flight.
