Day 1: Exploring Akagera National Park – The Savannah Gem – Rwanda Mountain Gorillas

Your adventure kicks off after breakfast with an exhilarating game drive in Akagera National Park, unveiling the treasures of eastern Rwanda. This remarkable park, situated on the border with Tanzania, is under the careful stewardship of African Parks, a conservation organization dedicated to preserving wildlife. By fencing off a portion of the park and introducing community tours, they’ve successfully mitigated conflicts between local communities and the park.

Akagera is the sole Savannah park in Rwanda and boasts a diverse range of mammal species, including iconic lions, majestic elephants, graceful giraffes, imposing hippos, sprightly kobs, spirited zebras, elusive bushbucks, and serene waterbucks. Most recently, the park reintroduced black rhinos from South Africa, reinstating Akagera as one of the “Big Five” parks, as it once was. Moreover, the park’s various habitats, encompassing woodlands, swamps, lakes, and savannah, provide a haven for an array of bird species.

Day 2: Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park – Rwanda Mountain Gorillas

Day two begins with a delectable breakfast, followed by a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Nyanza King’s Palace, the National Museum of Butare, and Nyanza, which served as the ancient Rwanda Kingdom’s headquarters prior to European colonization. The compound features the modern palace constructed by King Mutara in 1934, adorned with traditional mats and utensils, providing a glimpse into Rwanda’s rich history and culture.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Conclusion – Rwanda Mountain Gorillas

Commence your day with a hearty breakfast before venturing into Nyungwe Forest to embark on an incredible chimpanzee trekking expedition. Accompanied by our knowledgeable guides well-versed in botany, ornithology, and interspecies relationships, you’ll gain invaluable insights into the forest’s intricacies and the fascinating world of these primates.
