Congo Gorilla Tour Overview
Congo Gorilla Tour – This 6-day trip takes you to Congo to see the Nyiragongo volcano and Eastern Lowland Gorillas. This place has a big volcano called Nyiragongo, which has the largest lava lake in the world. It also has a type of gorilla called the Eastern lowland gorilla in the Kahuzi Biega national park. Kahuzi Biega is a place in South Kivu that is very special and important. It is a World Heritage site. It is also one of only two places where you can find Eastern Lowland Gorillas.
Climbing the volcano will be challenging and take a long time (4 to 6 hours). But, it will be completely worth it once you reach the top. The lava lake is amazing, and people spend a long time watching the moving lava and listening to its loud sounds. After enjoying a beautiful boat trip on Lake Kivu, you will finish your visit by learning about the Hunde tribe.

Day 1: Pick up From Kigali and Transfer to Bukavu in Congo - Congo Gorilla Tour
In the morning, a driver will come to your hotel or the airport in Kigali and take you to the border town of Cyangugu. From there, you will continue southwards towards Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will have a break in Butare, where you can visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site. After you eat lunch, keep traveling to Bukavu. You will see beautiful hills in Rwanda and pass through the tropical forest in Nyungwe National Park. You will also get a good look at Lake Kivu. Have dinner and stay overnight at a very nice hotel called Panorama Hotel which is very luxurious.
Day 2: Low Land Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biege - Congo Gorilla Tour
In the morning, you will go on an exciting adventure to see the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park. Seeing lowland Gorillas up close is absolutely incredible. The lowland gorillas are larger and live in larger families than mountain gorillas. The hiking adventure typically lasts between 1 and 4 hours. This is a very rare experience because Eastern lowland gorillas can only be found in the DR Congo. Afternoon is almost over, so you can drive back to your hotel later.
Day 3: Transfer to Goma - Congo Gorilla Tour
Tomorrow morning, you will ride on a fast boat to get to Goma city. When you arrive in Goma, you will go to your hotel and then take a quick tour of the city. This tour will show you the Goma beach, the downtown area, the docks, the lively atmosphere of the city, the local people, the market, and you can also do some shopping for handmade crafts from Congo. You will finish your day trip at Maghali Restaurant where you can try delicious local dishes. Have dinner and stay overnight at Goma Serena Hotel.
Day 4: Boat cruise and Cultural Sites in Masisi Teritory - Congo Gorilla Tour
On this day, you will go on a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Kivu. You will have a great time looking at the beautiful sights as you travel to Minovah in a fast boat. When you arrive in Minovah, you will learn about the Hunde tribe’s culture and history. Have a nice dinner and stay overnight at Goma Serena Hotel.
Day 5: Hiking to Nyiragongo - Congo Gorilla Tour
After you finish eating breakfast at your hotel, go to the Kibati Ranger post at 8:15am. This is where the journey to the Nyiragongo volcano starts. It will take about four to six hours to go up the volcano, and people who are climbing it will stay overnight at the top. Spend the night in a wooden shelter.
Day 6: Nyiragogo and Departure - Congo Gorilla Tour
In the morning, begin going down to Kibati. On average, it takes four hours to descend. Go back to Kigali from the bottom.
