After arriving in the protected area, a ranger will accompany us on a beautiful nature walk through the Ituri Rainforest. Enjoy the peacefulness of the forest, look out for the rich birdlife at the swamp and boil an egg in the hot springs that have become an interesting natural attraction. It will be completed with a picnic lunch provided by the guide, while you explore the real Africa. Later in the afternoon we return to Kibale Forest.
Today the forest opens it doors for a sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputable of having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. Uganda can be visited year-round, but the dry seasons—from June to September and December to February—are ideal for wildlife viewing and gorilla trekking. The trails are less muddy, and animals are easier to spot.
Gorilla trekking requires moderate physical fitness. The trek can last anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. The paths can be steep and muddy, but the experience of seeing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat makes it absolutely worth it.
Accommodation varies depending on your package (budget, mid-range, or luxury). Lodges and tented camps are comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, and scenic views of the parks or surrounding nature.
Pack light, comfortable clothes in neutral colors, hiking boots, a rain jacket, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera. Don’t forget your gorilla trekking gear—long pants, gloves, and gaiters.
